Beach Installation (Kuwait Salmiya Beach 2013)

The installations became the link between the artist and the public, and with this strategy I started creating a series of installations where the public stopped being a passive audience and became more involved: expressing their views and thoughts regarding the local culture and how they had responded and adapted to a variety of different situations.

By utilising a public space used by both citizens and expatriates I was able to engage a variety of social groups and elicit their responses to my art.

As was expected, the responses varied considerably, but the social status and origin of the participants were a significant factor in the nature of their opinions and comments. The expatriates were occupying the same physical environment, but were separated by different realities. Social status, nationality, religion and culture all combined to create different perspectives on the installations, reflecting widely varying views.

The idea to explore the creative process of transforming a found object or recycled materials found in the beach into a work of art was to contribute to the narrative, or storytelling, element in an individual work or even explore as sequences with the aim to reminds the viewer that while recycling is necessary to sustain our planet’s resources, it is equally valid as a creative and innovative material and subject matter in the visual arts.

The frames was inspired in the frames for the structures for the weaving for tapestry, in this case as a sequences where for each pieces the effects will give a different aspect from the same sources.
